Climbing on my own (for the first time)
I have been scared, for whatever reason i dont quite understand, to climb alone. Possibly I felt just self conscious, worried that without the support of a partner I would somehow stand out more. Look like I couldnt do it. But then I was waiting for my bud to show up and she texted that she would be late, stuck in traffic. So I decided to squash this fear and just try it. And it was so much fun, now I dont want to climb by myself all the time, I still really like that climbing is such a buddy sport. But now I know that I can go alone, and it will be fine. And I can do it.
Using the Autobelay system in a Climb Gym
Took me a while to trust this device but now that I do I can go to the climb gym on my own. The device is such that when you let go of the wall you come back down , no need for a partner but you can only do specific routes. Its a little weird the first time to let go....truthfully took me months to get to the top and let go. Now that I can I am pretty proud of myself.
Elk Falls Suspension Bridge- A step against my fear of heights
I have long struggled with a fear of heights and I am consistently looking for challenges to overcome, to fight panic with logic and deal with the irrational part of my fear.
Last year (2016) I visited this bridge and could not get myself to go accross, so when I returned this year I made it my mission to get across this bridge. And get across I did, my heart still raced, my feet tingled, my mind fed me a lot of different stories, but in the end I was able to get logical enough that my feet went step by step and I crossed it. Fighting against fear and just going for it is so important to me, getting out past those fears is growth. And really its all pretty fun in the end.
I made this silly video of the experience with imovie on my phone. Hope you get a kick out of it.

The West Coast Trail
When I decided to do the west coast trail on the coast of Vancouver Island Canada in the summer of 2016 I weighed 265 lbs. My plan was to lose 40 lbs to go, but when I hit the trail August 15 (on my one year wedding anniversary with my husband) I weighed 259. But I did it!! The whole trail is "75km" of challenging terrain. We started at the midpoint and went north, trail miles said 32 km but we tracked 42 km over 3 days. You can do it people!!! Just start moving and show this world and yourself what you got. Take your time, be slow and sweat. We were always the last in camp but we always made camp. I'm afraid of a lot of things so I threw myself in and said, you have no choice. You are in the middle of no where, so you must get through this. So that means I covered just as much ground as the fittest person there
but I did it carrying 100 extra pounds.
Happy hiking fellow chubs, lug that fat ass up a mountain. And i mean that it the most supportive and loving way possible.

PUBLIC PERFORMANCE
Stepping out to do something a little scary.....
A few years ago I decided that I was going to do a little performance on the train here in Calgary. In honour of halloween I would perfect an ursula costume, find me a little mermaid and perform poor unfortunate souls on the train. I practiced that song all day every day until I thought everyone in my house would go mad, but it paid off. I got dressed, did my makeup, but my little stereo in my purse and went off to catch a train. When the train left the station I turned the music on and.... I DID IT!!!
My lovely friend Tara joined as the little mermaid and my brother Chris made the video. Terrifying as it was I had so much fun and am so glad I did it.
Below I have linked the video if you wonder how the whole thing looked.
